Sir, i have seen in youtube, that with tv we can control the pc.(why that ).but is it possible to control pc directly using the kinect sensor with the usb directlyinto pc,,, without using the xbox360..n also is this enoughto have the kincet sensor only or i have to buy the xbox 360 console..plez explain me in detailss...

Hi everyone!

Thanks to have created this Blog Vangos !

I have successfully install kinect on my laptop (Windows7,64bits).

I have well depth image and the different options that I can open by clicking right on my screen... But it's impossible to save the raw depth data even if it seems possible... indeed, I want to know if it is possible to save the raw depth data in term of raw sensor values, or in world coordinate (mm or m)?? I want to work after with matlab on this depth data...

So cool! I can now buy Kinect and use it to my PC. Thanks to MS for bringing up Kinect to Windows based PC.

I have a problem running the samples. It gave me this message:

Unable to start program, NiRecordRaw.exe is not found

Any ideas???

Please help!! Am using an x64 bit machine

Hey, thanks for this tutorial. In tried to install OpenNi with your manual. But for me it just seems to be half working. I can run the NiViewer.exe in the Release Folder, all other examples don't work. The console starts, waits and then just closes.

All examples in the debug folder, also the NiViewer, don't work. I'm getting a Side-by-Side-Configuration Error. Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

Hey! thanks for the tutorial, works perfectly. I actually had two little problems:

first you need to install OpenNI binaries and then install the drivers (do steps 1 and 2 the other way around). Maybe this is due to newer versions?

second the demos were not working because the system variables could not be found. i went to the system variables as described in the troubleshooting section and instead of changing the OPEN_NI_BIN value, i needed to change the OPEN_NI_INSTALL_PATH form "C:\Programming\Kinnect\OpenNI\" to "C:\Programming\Kinnect\OpenNI".

Maybe this can help some people. ;)

Hey Alex, you missed to install the correct kinect driver.

I guess most of the problems come from installing the wrong kinect driver.

Did you download avis2 and went from root folder to bin folder and installed the kinectsensor driver?

I dont think so!

Hi, I have a Win7 64bit version, I followed every step but I only have in:

device manager > human interface devices as:

Xbox NUI Audio

Xbox NUI Camera

Xbox NUI Motor

not the primsensor heading byt the human interface devices..

any tips, I'm grateful to be able to solve this installation.

- Try to omit step 1 or

- Install the stable release only.

Did you manage to run the recompiled project and got the same error?

When I try to install OpenNI binary I keep getting this error message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

I tried both unstable and stable OpenNI versions.

Windows XP 32 bit

I also got the same error as Simone, what i did was additionally installing the opensource binary's from avin's located in: avin2-SensorKinect-28738dc\Bin

Hope it can help someone...
